When Stone Age humans painted animals on cave walls, little did they know that tens of thousands of years later, those illustrations would help archaeologists to understand how they spent their time, hunted, and communicated. When Napoleon’s soldiers found the Rosetta Stone in Egypt, they could not have known that it would become the key to unlocking the beliefs, history, and ideas of ancient Egypt.
We could never have predicted what we have been experiencing in 2020, and we can’t know how future historians will view these unprecedented times. We have certainly learned, during the global COVID-19 pandemic, how much lies beyond our control. We have also seen communities connect, be supportive, and express gratitude, in heartening ways.
It is our continued hope that this year’s conference will inspire you to have a lasting impact on your organizations and the people in your lives. While we can’t all, in the words of Steve Jobs, “make a ding in the universe,” we can do whatever is within our power to find new solutions, mentor others, and be leaders in our associations. Plan now to join us later this year and discover how you can “Make Your Mark.”
